101 Road Tales

101 Road Tales

If like me you are a subscriber to Rider magazine in the US you will know all about Road Tales written by Clement Salvadori. It is in my humble opinion one of the main reasons for buying the magazine and the first read when it arrives.

Once a diplomat, he found travel and motorcycling a much more pleasurable occupation and has become one of the foremost writers on motorcycle travel. But, if you are not familiar with the name of the column, this is not a book that gives routes, but series of observations on travel by motorcycle. I have had the pleasure of his company and he is as relaxed and laid back as his writings suggest. He has over the years, persuaded in a very subtle way, many a rider just to slow the pace a little and enjoy the journey and see more of the countryside.

This is book for long winter evenings, or sitting on a beach, or just leaving by the favourite chair to dip in and out of at leisure. Each story is complete in itself and will cause laughter or a nod of the head as you relate totally to what the master is saying.

Even if you read the originals, you will still enjoy recapping in this hardback book well illustrated over its 380 plus pages. Definitely one of the best books of 2008 and well worth $24.95.
