BMW Motorrad UK and dealer staff on completion of the first ATA Master Technician AssessmentIt’s official! BMW Motorrad has the highest qualified motorcycle technicians in the country after three of its dealer network technicians became the first ever to achieve the accreditation of ATA Master Technician.

The Automotive Technician Accreditation (ATA) scheme for motorcycles – which was piloted by BMW Motorrad in 2007 – sets an agreed industry standard for qualifications and the training of motorcycle technicians and is supported by all the major motorcycle manufacturers.

Since launching the ATA scheme to its network, BMW Motorrad has assessed the majority of its dealership technicians at their national training centre, the BMW Group Academy UK. All BMW Technicians are required to reach the ATA Service and Maintenance standard, while at least one technician in every BMW dealership must be qualified to senior diagnostic level.

A total of seven experienced technicians went through the inaugural Master Technician assessment process. Tony Carpenter from Vines South London Motorrad, Craig Stewart from John Clark Aberdeen, and Joe Martin from BMW Park Lane are the first three motorcycle technicians in the UK to have graduated to the level of ATA Master Technician.

Ian Gilgrass, Accreditation Manager at The Institute of the Motor Industry (IMI) which regulates the scheme, said: “Our congratulations go to these three BMW Motorrad technicians whose competence and integrity have been recognised at a national level. ATA is valued by businesses and technicians alike and both are playing their part in raising standards to improve public perceptions of our sector.”

Conrad Parker, BMW Motorrad’s National Aftersales Manager, said: “BMW Motorrad UK is committed to developing the technical expertise of its dealer network and we are very proud of all seven technicians that participated in the first assessment. They all work and train tirelessly to be the very best in their field and, whilst all did not succeed on their first attempt, they should all be congratulated for continuing to strive for the highest levels of technical proficiency.

"Tony, Craig and Joe in particular should receive praise for becoming the first qualified Motorcycle ATA Master Technicians in the UK. They fully deserve this honour in motorcycle technical excellence.”
