A Twist of the Wrist II’ by Keith Code |
|
This DVD is the long awaited visual adaptation of American Keith Code’s legendary best-selling “Twist II” which has been hailed as the cornering bible worldwide. That of course was the sequel to the original ‘Twist of the Wrist’ which took the world of motorcycling by storm at the beginning of the eighties.Just in case you have been out of touch with motorcycle and in particular training and riding theory, Keith Code is the founder of the world famous California Superbike School. He has trained more riders than anyone in the world, including many of the world class factory riders past and present. What has made Code stand out is his unique ability to unravel machine and riding complexities and establish simple, essential principles to help improve people improve their riding. Unlike some, he manages to combine road and track riding, so provides both road and race riders with real tools to help them think about and understand the problems of riding. Anybody who thinks that you can only improve by seat of the pants experience, should read Keith’s books including ‘The Soft Science of Road Racing Motorcycles’ which helps you realise that understanding science and theory is just as useful and probably cheaper than track time! However, no matter how well written, sometimes practical demonstration helps make learning easier, hence this latest DVD. Basically by means of a storyline and various interjections all the information contained in the book is visualised, helped by commentary from well known MotoGP commentator and guru, Julian Ryder. The disc is split into chapters just like the book so you do not have to watch all the 109 minutes in one go. You can also jump about and replay sections to get a full understanding of the various techniques. Just like the book, included is information on barriers to cornering and how to overcome them, rider input, the fundamentals of steering, visual skills, braking, body position, throttle control and so on. There is also a bonus chapter on how to adjust your bike to deal with SAG. All this is achieved using high definition on-board cameras, computer animation and all thoroughly modern techniques to clearly illustrate complex motorcycle dynamics. I must say that having read all of the Code books before, this was useful refresher and helped cement certain points in my head. So this is an excellent instructional DVD and is cheap at £24.99 for the information contained, which is priceless. The only real danger, apart from falling off your chair as you try the positions, in watching, is that you might end up signing up for a course at the California Superbike School in the UK, or even America if you want to meet Keith!
